Three Maritime Incidents in Gulf

Three maritime security incidents were logged in the Middle East region over 30-31 August, per the Joint Maritime Information Center. Regional threat level is SEVERE.

The tanker BURGAN was hit on its starboard aft ballast tank by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz. No casualties.

The tanker SENEGAL PROSPERITY was struck by three rockets on the port side engine room and ballast tank, 4NM off Oman. It lost all communications, went dead in the water and is listing to port. Crew evacuated, no casualties.

A third tanker was ordered to reverse course by a military aircraft 57NM off Oman, which overflew the bridge in a show of force and fired a round into the water alongside. Crew safe.

A Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) Advisory Note Update 092, dated 01 March – 01 September 2026, detailing confirmed maritime security incidents in the Middle East Maritime Region with a SEVERE regional threat level. The document lists attacks and advisories involving tankers BURGAN, a name-withheld vessel, and SENEGAL PROSPERITY in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters.
