Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa made the country's first international Visa card payment, swiping for coffee at a Damascus hotel cafe with Central Bank Governor Safwat Raslan.

It came one day after Washington removed Syria from its State Sponsor of Terrorism list, in place since 1979.

U.S. President Donald Trump on the topics discussed in his meeting with Xi Jinping:

"We had the head of Visa there today... I said what about using Visa in China? For some reason, they were blackballed, and maybe that will come off."

Visa and Mastercard now functional in Syria after 15 years.
