Some would remain trapped for roughly 7 to 9 hours.
At around 2:00 PM, Shayetet 13 commandos arrived after being rapidly flown south by helicopter. According to the IDF, they were thrown into a conventional battle to recapture an Israeli military base, a mission they had not expected to be fighting that morning.
The commandos moved through the outpost under fire, clearing positions while simultaneously searching for and rescuing trapped soldiers.
The footage captures them calling out to those sheltering inside: “Shayetet, Shayetet, stay in the bunker, we’re coming.”
The clearing operation lasted roughly 2 hours. Shayetet 13 killed dozens of Hamas terrorists and captured others, including Muhammad Abu Ghali, a senior commander in Hamas’ southern naval force. No Shayetet 13 casualties were publicly reported from the battle at Sufa.
One detail that stands out in the footage is their weapons. Several commandos were using suppressed rifles, reducing muzzle blast, flash and noise. This was daylight combat, not a typical stealth mission, but suppressors were still useful while firing around walls, bunkers and friendly troops.
