Lebanese official Nawaf Al-Moussawi is calling on President Joseph Aoun to hold a referendum on direct negotiations and a peace deal with Israel.

Speaking to Al-Arabi, he accused Washington of preparing an "ambush" for Aoun during his upcoming U.S. visit, where he's set to meet Netanyahu.

Al-Moussawi warned Aoun against shaking hands with someone "whose hand is dripping with blood" while Lebanese land is occupied.

He urged Aoun to demand a public vote first, saying it would expose whether Hezbollah truly represents the Lebanese majority.

Al-Moussawi claimed Hezbollah and Amal hold the majority based on parliamentary results and called Aoun's term one of the worst in Lebanese history.
