Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri: direct talks with Israel have brought Lebanon nothing meaningful so far.

He said he opposes the pilot zone plan, warning it is meant to pull the Lebanese army into internal conflict and spark a civil war "that will only serve the Israeli enemy."

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri told Al-Jumhuriya that Israel is not entitled to freedom of action under the memorandum of understanding. He said ensuring Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon is now the top priority and will fall within the 60-day U.S.-Iran negotiation period. Berri added that all 14 clauses were carefully drafted and that Tehran would enforce them meticulously.

A Lebanese government source told Al-Jamhoriya that Iran's attempt to link the Lebanese front to its deterrence equation with Israel has been thwarted by the military developments of the past two days. Direct American intervention has established new rules of engagement that are completely different from what Tehran sought.

Some Lebanese MPs are expected to introduce a bill repealing all laws that ban Lebanese citizens from contact with Israel, according to the Lebanese newspaper al-Jumhoriya. The move is tied to broader Lebanese efforts toward a ceasefire with Israel.
