The aircraft was part of the exfiltration effort for special forces operating behind enemy lines during the rescue mission.

The C-295W is a rare special operations platform used by the 427th SOS under AFSOC. Only a small number are in service. Built by Airbus in Spain, it is designed for short and unprepared runways, low level flight, and insertion and extraction missions in austere environments.
