Two Iranian men have been charged in London over hostile surveillance and advance reconnaissance of the Israeli embassy, Britain's oldest synagogue and other Israeli and Jewish sites.

Britain's national security adviser Jonathan Powell travelled to Israel last week in an undisclosed visit aimed at preventing the closure of the U.K. consulate in East Jerusalem, three sources told Reuters. Israel ordered the closure after London sanctioned Israeli settlements. Powell met Israeli officials but no agreement was reached.

Britain has reportedly threatened to expel 27 Israeli diplomats and their families if Israel closes the UK consulate in East Jerusalem and removes British diplomats.

The consulate is set to close October 8 under an order by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar following UK sanctions over the West Bank.

At least 10 USAF B-1B Lancer bombers left RAF Fairford today for bases in the United States. The aircraft had been stationed in the U.K. for the Iran war.

8 of the 12 B 1B bombers deployed to RAF Fairford have now departed for the U.S.

It remains unclear whether replacement aircraft will be sent.

RAF Fairford incident: a 25 year old man holding both British and Iranian citizenship, detained two days ago on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts, was released on bail. Five people suspected in the affair have been bailed.

Suspicious vehicle activity was recorded outside the base earlier this week. British officials point to strong indications of Iranian involvement, but no conclusion has been reached that an attack was thwarted.

Sunday's incident at RAF Fairford airbase in southwest England has produced an arrest. UK Counter Terrorism Policing announced Thursday that a 27-year-old dual UK/Iranian national was detained in central London on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts. A second man was also questioned as part of the investigation.
