Emanuel Fabian of The Times of Israel went to visit one of Hezbollah’s largest underground military complexes beneath the Beaufort Ridge in southern Lebanon after recapturing Beaufort Castle, a strategic position overlooking Metula and the Galilee Panhandle.
According to the report, the 1.3 km tunnel network was built with direct Iranian assistance over an estimated 10 to 15 years. The underground complex included living quarters, electricity, running water, showers, kitchens and a fully equipped operating room, allowing Hezbollah fighters to remain underground for months.
The IDF says the tunnels were designed to launch attacks into northern Israel and defend against Israeli ground operations. During the operation to capture the complex, Israeli forces eliminated Hezbollah fighters inside the tunnels and seized an exceptional cache of advanced Iranian weapons, including air defense systems not previously encountered.
The military plans to demolish the tunnel network.
Just north of Beaufort, on the Ali Taher Ridge, Israeli forces say Hezbollah’s Badr regional command remains trapped inside another major underground complex. The IDF controls the surface and continues to monitor the site, but has not entered the facility because of the current ceasefire. @manniefabian
