Qatar's Deputy PM said Doha and Gulf partners oppose permanent Hormuz transit fees but are open to temporary charges tied to mine-clearing. Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, said fees "will always impact the consumer" but acknowledged temporary, purpose-specific charges are "negotiable."

Qatar is the world's largest LNG exporter, with roughly 70% of its export revenues dependent on the strait. LNG cannot be rerouted through pipelines and must be shipped on specialized tankers, making Hormuz the only viable exit. Doha is also urging GCC members to unify their approach toward Tehran on trade, political, and security fronts.
