Iran’s Fars News Agency reports an explosion near Kharg Island, Iran’s key oil export hub in the Persian Gulf.

It has been going on for days. Two USAF aerial refueling tankers have been consistently operating over the Persian Gulf.

Usually means fighter jets are being refueled for ongoing missions, possibly escorting and protecting ships transiting the Hormuz.

PM Netanyahu:

“People are going to develop alternative sources, and they are already developing alternative routes.

Instead of all the energy going through the Persian Gulf, there will be other routes.”

A cargo vessel transiting the Arabian Gulf took two hits from unknown projectiles 40NM southeast of Umm Qasr, Iraq. The first caused a large explosion, the second started a fire that has since been extinguished. No injuries to crew. UKMTO is advising vessels to transit with caution.

Tehran has declared its missile program off the table in any talks, framing it as sovereign defense. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei added that NATO forces entering the Persian Gulf would only deepen complications in the region.

Tankers stranded in the Persian Gulf for weeks are being overtaken by marine growth. One shipping source described heavy barnacle and jellyfish buildup after six to eight weeks in 30°C water, calling it a serious concern for vessel integrity.
