He wants all weapons under army control only, disarming Hezbollah, without internal conflict. Lebanon is also seeking a new force in the south to fill the gap when UNIFIL leaves.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun made a surprise visit to Nabatieh yesterday under heavy security. The city and nearby villages were at the center of Israeli strikes this week tied to the destruction of the Ali Taher ridge. Aoun met with residents and pledged the Lebanese state would provide all necessary services.
