Iranian state media Tasnim: American missiles hit Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz.

NASA FIRMS satellite data shows an active fire on the Iranian side of the Strait of Hormuz today.

It’s south of Larak Island and southeast of Bandar Abbas, near the shipping lanes.

It is highly possible that an Iranian tanker has been struck, and it hasn’t been reported yet.

Iranian state TV announced designated safe transit routes for vessels in the Persian Gulf.
Inbound ships are directed south of Hormuz Island, while outbound vessels are to transit south of Larak Island.

According to MarineTraffic and shipping data, the Qatari LNG carrier is navigating the Iran approved route near Larak Island en route to Port Qasim in Pakistan. If successful it would be the first Qatari LNG export through Strait of Hormuz since the war began in February.

Iranian state media aired footage of the Strait of Hormuz route near its coast, claiming all transit now requires IRGC approval. The passage runs between Larak and Qeshm islands.

Let’s see if it passes the U.S. blockade.

INTERESTING: The sanctioned crude oil tanker “ALICIA” has passed through the Hormuz via the Islamic regime-controlled toll route between Hormuz Island and Larak Island.

The IRGC say they’ve set up a “safe corridor” in the Strait of Hormuz, routing ships through Iranian territorial waters near Larak Island, close to the mainland and Qeshm.

Transit through this corridor is controlled and requires Iranian approval, with some vessels reportedly paying for passage.

Iranian-linked reports also warn that alternative routes in the strait may be mined or unsafe.

Iran blocked two Chinese container ships from passing through the Strait of Hormuz, forcing them to turn back near Larak Island, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Everyone is focused on Kharg Island.

The one that very much matters right now is Larak Island.

IRGC naval bases, port infrastructure, and control over ship screening. It functions as a choke point, effectively a toll booth and targeting hub inside the Strait.

A Chinese-owned tanker, Bright Gold, sailed through the Strait of Hormuz along an Iran-approved coastal route between Qeshm and Larak, signaling its Chinese ownership. Two Indian gas carriers followed the same route after coordination with Tehran, Bloomberg reports.
