DP World plans a new port and container terminal on the UAE's east coast, cutting Dubai's reliance on its Jebel Ali hub and bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. Talks are underway for a new multipurpose port in Fujairah and a new terminal at the existing harbour there.
The U.S. military has been secretly escorting ship-to-ship oil transfers off the UAE and Oman to keep Gulf exports flowing through the Strait of Hormuz. The operation, active since early May, involves at least 92 ships, aerial and water drones, and helicopters guiding convoys to awaiting tankers. Reuters identified the two transfer points off Fujairah and Sohar through shipping data, satellite imagery, and 11 sources familiar with the effort.
