French President Emmanuel Macron:

France offers Spain full support over the Ceuta migration situation, including via Frontex, after President Macron contacted Spain's Prime Minister to express solidarity and propose all necessary aid.

Cooperation with Morocco has already enabled over 40,000 returns from Ceuta to Morocco today. Interior ministers remain in contact to closely monitor developments.

Ceuta does not benefit from free movement into the rest of Schengen. Macron has still ordered the Interior Minister, since yesterday, to reinforce controls at the France-Spain border if needed: 4 mobile force units, aircraft and drones deployed.

These build on measures in place since 2020 to better protect the France-Spain border in close coordination, with joint brigades and joint action against illegal immigration.

They also complement EU instruments adopted to ensure returns and apply the asylum and migration pact, with a 25% drop in irregular flows into the EU last year and a continued decline on the Atlantic and Western Mediterranean routes in 2026.

France reaffirms solidarity and responsibility with its European partners to enforce firm rules on returns and protection of the EU's external borders, and restates its solidarity with Spain, its government and its people.
