Egypt is renewing its push for the technocratic committee plan and the disarmament of Hamas.

The Saudi paper Al-Sharq al-Awsat reports, citing Hamas sources with no confirmation elsewhere, that Hamas leadership is moving toward dissolving the "Committee to Monitor Government Activities," which acts as its de facto government in Gaza.

The dissolution could come as part of an initiative to pave the way for a technocratic committee, headed by Ali Sha'ath, to manage the Strip.

Should Hamas announce it, the move would likely be declarative only. The group's real power centers in Gaza remain in its hands, with no genuine intent to abandon its "resistance" against Israel.

Hamas and other Palestinian factions are set to meet again in Cairo within two days to bridge gaps on the second phase of the fragile ceasefire.
