NEW: Gen. Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, made his first official visit to Caracas, Venezuela today.

Met with senior interim government leaders and Embassy staff, and visited the Marine Security Augmentation Unit.

SOUTHCOM chief Gen. Francis Donovan was in Caracas.

U.S. Marine MV-22B Ospreys over Caracas. The flights were part of an emergency military response exercise at the U.S. Embassy.

SOUTHCOM Commander Gen. Francis Donovan made his second official visit to Caracas today, holding bilateral discussions with senior interim government leaders and observing a joint military response exercise. Two Marine MV-22B Ospreys transported Donovan and U.S. service members to the Venezuelan capital as part of the exercise. SOUTHCOM reaffirmed U.S. commitment to President Trump's three-phase plan and the stabilization of Venezuela.

In a joint effort with the Venezuela and IAEA support, the United States has safely removed and transported all remaining enriched uranium (about 13.5 kg, enriched to just above 20% U-235) from the shutdown RV-1 research reactor near Caracas.

US State Department:

For nearly 7 years there have been no direct commercial flights between the U.S. and Venezuela.

Under President Trump we're changing that today. Flights between Miami and Caracas restored.
