BREAKING: Series of Explosive Devices Detonate Near Macron’s Hotel in Damascus – Security Source

Explosive devices detonated near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron is staying in Damascus on Tuesday, according to a security source who spoke to Reuters, during the first visit by a major Western leader to post Assad Syria. The story is still developing.

Separate reports from Al Araby TV said 2 loud explosions were heard in the Syrian capital. There are no immediate reports of casualties, and there is no indication that Macron was injured or directly targeted.

Macron arrived in Damascus on Monday for talks with Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa, formerly known as Abu Mohammed al Jolani, as France seeks to expand its role in Syria’s reconstruction and economic recovery. French business and investment representatives are accompanying the delegation.

The incident comes less than 1 week after a bombing at a crowded Damascus café killed at least 9 people and wounded more than 20, highlighting Syria’s continuing security challenges.

No group has claimed responsibility, and Syrian authorities have reportedly tightened security around the French delegation. Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
